Countdown To Camp: Fred Davis Is Crazy?

Training camp starts in a few days, marking the third year of the Shanahan era. With each new training camp comes a new batch of questions regarding the team.  As training camp approaches, we will examine some of these questions.

Is Fred Davis Daffy?

Not only was he suspended for repeated drug-test failures last season, but the TE with the most potential on the roster also ran into legal issues during the offseason. Fortunately for those of us with a sense of humor, the full courtroom transcripts were available to the public following Davis’s testimony.

Serving as his own defense counsel, Davis ran into issues such as submitting a document which described events from December 2012 (the future), throwing a drink in a woman’s eyes, and describing a ‘pimp cup’. (Read It Here)

It’s safe to assume Davis is on strike 2 with the organization that drafted him, and his potential alone won’t save him from his off-field antics anymore. Davis needs to get serious, or he won’t be part of one of the most dynamic tight-end corps (along with Chris Cooley) which looks to be crucial to the development of RG3.

So it will be good to keep an eye on Davis in camp to see how motivated he is.  Unfortunately we can't also watch him at home 24 hours a day.

Redskins Lock Up Fred Davis Before The Police Do

Redskins star offensive player and weed smoker extraordinaire Fred Davis has signed a one year contract for around $5.5 Million.  The Redskins gave Four Twenty Freddy the franchise tag earlier this month which meant that they would be able to keep him no matter what other teams did.  Davis is suspended for the first 4 (no relation to the terrible name of the new "first round" of the NCAA Tournament) but will be one of RGIII's favorite receivers when he returns.

The contract is for one year, so next year the Skins will have to pay up again.  I'm assuming the one year has to do something with Davis' rookie contract which is why they aren't extending him for more than a year?  Hopefully if Davis plans to screw up and get zooted he does it this season before he is here for the long term.  Actually they would still probably want to keep him even if he got suspended again.  Just pass on grass Freddy.
