Draft Madness With Cam Newton, Andy Luck, & RGIII

Cam Newton

Last year when Cam Newton came out of college, as soon as the season was over, he was projected to go somewhere around the 10th pick, the one which the Washington Redskins held.  Mel Kiper was thinking that he would be the perfect fit for the Skins at that 10th slot.  Todd McShay agreed.

"“I gave them Cam Newton because I think that’s the kind of quarterback that can be molded, and he has all the potential, all the upside you would ever want,” Kiper said." -Mel Kiper on the Redskins picking Cam Newton

Those two had Newton at 10 to the Skins in their mock drafts at the end of January, and the draft didn't happen until the end of April.  By April Cam Newton slid all the way up to the #1 pick.

Newton turned out to be a good first pick (so far)...

Andrew Luck/RGIII

This season, Andrew Luck was projected to be the number 1 pick in the draft.   It was a no-brainer. In fact, if he would have came out of school last season, he would have been projected to go #1.

So how did Robert Griffin III all of a sudden jump up to be in competition with Luck for number 1.  He has made the Cam Newton climb and now the Colts are saying that maybe they haven't decided to take Andrew Luck just yet.

Are the Colts second guessing themselves?  Are they thinking that maybe Luck is such an easy choice that maybe it is too easy.  Maybe the other guy would be better?

While Griffin was still projected to be the 2nd QB (to whoever needed one) I'm not exactly sure what RGIII has done since the end of the season to even bring up the move to be the 1st QB.  It is clearly insane.  Or is it.  Now I'm starting to think that RGIII will be a better player.  AHHHHHHHH!!!!

I can't be the only one who thinks they want to replace Peyton Manning with another white guy in Indy...can I?  Ok maybe that isn't true.  Maybe.  But clearly If the Colts take RGIII and Luck becomes great the Colts are dead.  If they take Luck and RGIII becomes great they are safe.  So do you take the safe pick just to take the safe pick?  The Colts will.

So this talk is fun and all, but really?...really?  REALLY?  Can the Colts just sign Luck already and get this crap over with...I'm sick of it.
