A Day With My New Best Friend, Alfred Morris

So I want to tell you all about the day I met my best friend...His name is Alfred Morris...

My coworker and I were just minding our business at work and we were informed that Alfred Morris was going to be at the Harris Teeter down the street.  Fred,  as close friends like myself call him, was there promoting his new "Chicken a la Mo" sandwich.

Both my coworker and I were a bit tired after a long night of watching the Redskins whip up on the Giants, but the left over adrenalin from the win and the smell of deli meat lured us into the grocery store.

To say I was nervous was an understatement.  As I stood in the line to meet the rookie star, my palms dripping with sweat, I recited in my head what I would say to him.

"You were great last night"

Now that is something I haven't said in a long long time...at least concerning Washington Redskins players...uh...wait...digging a hole here...let's forget about this whole paragraph.

The guy a few people in front of me also must have been contemplating his own zing all day because he asked the running back, "So...did you drive your old '91 Mazda here?" as he took a horrible picture.  Fred was not impressed as it was most likely the 30th time someone used that line on him that day.  Did you really think that was creative bro?

The next guy up, to the delight of the long line of people, brought his crying son to the event.  As the screaming child approached the Washington Redskin, Fred said, "Uh Oh, Stranger Danger!"  The father/son also took a horrible picture, and finally it was my turn.

All of a sudden I was Ralphie from A Christmas Story, except I was an adult...and I was holding a Mr. Potato Head Doll...and Santa was more of a muscular and stocky football player...and yes, I said I was holding a Mr. Potato Head.

"You were great last night!"

Fred laughed at my Mr. Potato Head and asked where I got it.

Uh oh Fred!  That wasn't in the script!!!!

I mumbled something that was so dumb that I can't even specifically remember what exactly it was.  I immediately decided to get my money back from that improv class I took.

I felt my face paralyze and then there was the flash of the camera.  And then...it happened...

HE TOUCHED MY SHOULDER!!!

Suddenly my hangover from the previous night’s celebration was gone.  My feet floated off the ground while actually remaining on the ground.  I dunno...it was weird.  I've been a Redskins fan my whole life, but that was the first time I got to meet an actual player and get an autograph.

And I couldn’t have gotten it from a better player and person.  Thank you Fred!

3 Key Redskins Who Outperformed Expectations In 2012 On Offense

I. Paulson - II. Morris - III. Moss

Three guys that impressed Redskins this season on the offense side of the ball

I.  Logan Paulson – Coming into the season many experts predicted it would be time for Fred Davis to finally break out. However this was far from the case as he scored 0 touchdowns in 7 games before he went down with a season ending Achilles injury.

The Redskins then scrambled to find a replacement, even signing the previously cut Chris Cooley. As it turns out the guy they were looking for was already on their roster.  Logan Paulson stepped up and caught some huge passes to end this season including a playoff touchdown.  Paulson proved he deserves to compete for major minutes in the NFL.

II.  Alfred Morris – What do fantasy experts tell you about Redskins runningbacks? Don't draft them. But you didn't listen and drafted one anyway.  Whoops. You scooped up Roy Helu Jr as a sleeper pick.  Whoops again.

Coming into the season Helu was expected to carry the load as longshot 6th round draft pick Alfred Morris was fighting to make the team as a fullback. As it turns out Alf outplayed everyone in the preseason, earned the starting role, and ended up as the NFLs 2nd leading rusher, only behind Purple Jesus himself.  How does that 1600 yards and 13 TD's taste fantasy experts?

III. Santana Moss – For the longest time Santana Moss has been a staple in the Redskins offense. Year after year he was as consistent as could be. However after turning 33 in the offseason the Redskins signed 2 big free agent wideouts.  Santana was being phased out...or was he?

Santana ended up catching 8 touchdown passes, the most he's ever had in one season as a Redskin! His receptions may have been down but he was definitely one of RGIII's favorite redzone targets.  The old man showed that he still had gas left in the tank.

5 Reasons The Seattle Seahawks Are Beatable

5 Reasons The Seahawks Are Beatable

  1. Unproven on the Road – Seattle's 11-5 record looks very impressive at first glance. However they are only 3-5 on the road and none of their 3 road victories were against playoff teams.

  2. Redskins Match up Well Against Them – Seattle is known for their dominant defense which little teams have had success against lately. However they are questionable on offense through the air with the 27th ranked passing attack. This works in the Redskins favor since they have one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

  3. Alfred Morris – The Seahawks have been burned up the middle by the likes of Frank Gore this season. Alfred Morris is a dominant force between the tackles and is coming off a 200-yard performance, look for him to have a huge game.

  4. Inexperienced – The Seattle Seahawks may have one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the game, but he's still a rookie. And besides their 7-9 playoff season from 2010 the rest of the team has little to no playoff experience.

  5. Haven't faced RGIII – Many teams who face RGIII for the first time speak post-game about how tough it is to face someone with his ability. Seattle may have beaten some quality quarterbacks this year but none with the running ability that he possesses.

Alfred Morris Is A Beast, 7 Guys Can't Bring Him Down

Here is an image from Sunday's game against the Panthers.  You can't even see him in the image, but in that pile of 7 Carolina Panthers is Alfred Morris.  No, he is not on the ground.  He is standing up.  Because all those Panthers were trying, but could not take Alf to the ground.  BEAST!

Alfred Morris Baseball Swinging Homerun Celebration Salutes Little League Team

After Alfred Morris runs in a touchdown for the Washington Redskins, he does the same celebration each time.  He throws up an imaginary baseball, swings an imaginary bat, and hits an imaginary grand slam (Like Michael Morse).  The follows that up with putting his hand over his eyes to block the sun and watch the invisible ball fly out of the stadium.

The FOX announcers mentioned that Alfred Morris is very humble and doesn't like to celebrate too much, but that the celebration was actually a way for him to salute a little league team who requested that Alfred Morris do something for them. (Read more from the Redskins Blog)

After he hits the ball and watches it fly, he throws up a Three Finger Salute in honor of his College Football team the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Owls.  The salute is what they call "Owl Fingers"

Check out the GIF of the celebration:

Alfred Morris Loses Helmet, Keeps Going, Redskintude

First, Alfred Morris impressed us in his NFL debut with a powerful leg driving push into the endzone in the first game against the Saints. (Watch The GIF).

Now Morris impresses us with his toughness again as he gets hit in the head, loses his helmet, and keeps running.  A very positive change from previous Redskins RBs who would fall face first on purpose to avoid hits:

Later Alfred did the spin move again to shake a defender and get into the endzone. The GIFs After the jump:

Rookie Alfred Morris Shows Desire & Dependability In NFL Debut.

With the 2nd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected quarterback Robert Griffin III out of Baylor.  The pick was a no-brainer and after a huge week 1 upset of the New Orleans Saints, it looks like that draft pick is for real.

The Skins didn't just give up after the RG3 pick, and they appear to have found quite the steal in running back Alfred Morris (ALMO).  Almo was drafted in the 6th round, but after a great preseason, he earned the starting spot over Evan Royster & Roy Helu Jr.  His display on Sunday showed why the Redskins had no trouble releasing the semi-injured Tim Hightower.

On Sunday against the Saints, Morris carried the ball 28 times, a huge workload for a rookie RB.  With all those carries Morris gained 96 Yards (3.5 per carry) and scored two goalline touchdowns (including the one seen below where he never stopped moving his feet.

Morris didn't really break free too many times, but the young RB from Florida Atlantic was always moving forward.  Even when he was stopped for no-gain at the line of scrimmage he would muster a yard or two.  He was dependable, and he wore down the defense, getting some of his biggest runs towards the end of the game.

With Mike Shanahan as the coach, it is hard to be able to tell if Morris will still be the goto guy later in the season, but for now, he has proven he can be trusted to wear down opposing defenses.
